, chris. and thanks to you for tuning in. tonight's lead, battleground michigan. president obama went to michigan today to confront a crisis that began there. but that matters to every state in the country. republicans in michigan, despite losing to state by 3 million votes to president obama have launched an extreme attack on core democratic policies. they are now pushing a far right agenda to go take down union rights and women's rights. we've seen this in wisconsin and ohio and virginia. now, it's in michigan. president obama went to an au auto-plan where he ripped the gop plan and crippled the state's labor unions. >> what we shouldn't be doing is taking away your rights to bargain for better wages. [ applause ] >> you know, these so called right to work laws, they don't have to do with economics, they have everything to do with politics. what they're really talking about is giving you the right to work for less money. you only have to look to michigan where workers were instrumental in reviving the auto industry to see how unions have helped build not just the stronger middle cla

did. i want president obama to do what he looks like he's already doing, getting it done right and on time. he knows it's an unclear dimension, nobody knows, i don't know, how bad the whirlwinds will be if we fail to do this on time. and one thing for certain, there's no guarantee that a huge drop in faith by the world economic markets will be followed by a quick rebound. as i said, this is a real cliff, not a bungy jump. that's "hardball" for now. "politicsnation" starts with al sharpton. >>> thanks, chris. it didn't come from the white house, it didn't come from democrats, it came from senator jim demint. the tea party hero who famously made this vow with the president's health care law. >> if we're able to stop obama on this, it will be his waterloo. it will break him. >> guess what, it wasn't the president's waterlook but today he announced that he's leaving the senate to run a conservative think tank. and just like that, gone is is a man who represented all of the obstruction, the man who defined gridlock and was the face of ugliness in the tea party movement. the night of

obama on this, it will be his waterloo. it will break him. >> guess what, it wasn't the president's waterlook but today he announced that he's leaving the senate to run a conservative think tank. and just like that, gone is is a man who represented all of the obstruction, the man who defined gridlock and was the face of ugliness in the tea party movement. the night of the president's inauguration, he met with other republicans to plot against the president. he threatened to single handedly shut down the senate in 2010 and stood strong with congressman todd akin after his legitimate rape comments. today's announcement is another line in the tea party obit. it's another nail in the tea party coffin. a movement that vowed to change washington. >> the tea party movement is alive and well. >> it's going to continue to redefine the political landscape in 2012. >> this november we're going to take back the senate and fortify the house. be aware, washington. tea party patriots are alive and well. >> didn't exactly work out that way, now, did it? this election sent tea party stars packing.

. and thanks to you for tuning in. tonight's lead, i will not play that game. president obama's holding all of the cards in the tax fight. the gop's on the ropes and they are ready to cave. but with all things republican, there's always a catch. that's right. speaker boehner and company are looking to hold the debt ceiling hostage again. willing to downgrade our credit rating again. willing to risk our recovery again. just to get their way on spending cuts. the only problem for them, the president is in no mood to play. >> so i want to send a very clear message to people here. we are not going to play that game next year. in congress in any way suggests that they are going to tie negotiations to debt ceiling votes and take us to the brink of default once again as part of a budget negotiation which, by the way, we have never done it in our history until we did it last year, i will not play that game. >> sorry speaker boehner. find someone else to play economic game with. the president isn't interested. he's done with their gimmicks. he's done with their ploys. he's done with the argument tha

claim that president obama spends his time out there in the world apologizing lost. it really did. and maybe, just maybe, the reason the people telling the most truth won. and the people telling the most untruth lost. it's for that very reason. we were, all of us, paying attention because it really mattered. that's "hardball" for now. "politics nation" with al sharpton starts right now. >> thanks, chris. and thanks for tuning in. tonight's lead, republicans are picking a fight they can't win. new evidence today that president obama is in a strong position in this nation's fight for fairness. and republicans are on the losing end of this fight. now, new polls show 65% of americans believe the president does have a mandate to raise taxes on the wealthy. 62% say he's got a mandate to protect medicare. and 64% says he's got a mandate to protect social security. that is a winning hand. the president has it and he knows it. >> i'm pretty confident that republicans would not hold middle class taxes hostage to try to protect tax cuts for high income individuals. >> and get this. 160 ceos

. elections matter. now, we elected a pro-choice president in barack obama. we've defeated some anti-choice members in congress, but state legislatures and governors are critical. we see them denying access to women all over this country. >> nancy, when you look at the fact 45 states have introduced 472 measures restricting women's right to choose this year alone. do you see the michigan move as a labor and women at the same time women not being talked about as much as you say in the cover of darkness they're trying to move this anti-woman, this war on women move again like the election didn't happen state by state and if they can do it quietly, that's even better? >> that's exactly what they do. i mean, they are stealth about this. if they walked up to your door and said i'm running for the state legislature and i am pro-life and i'm going to deny women access to care in this country. they hide behind it. we're going to do agenda, jobs, the state. it's like a bait and switch. they get there and the first thing they do is attack a woman's right to her reproductive health. >> lisa, wh
